My Personal Inspiration — Stained Glass Portrait Project

Throughout history, stained glass art has played a powerful role in storytelling, spirituality, and visual communication. Dating back to the Middle Ages, stained glass windows became a defining feature of many Catholic churches and cathedrals across Europe. These colourful windows were used to illustrate scenes from the Bible, honour saints, and inspire communities through light, colour, and symbolism. The glow of stained glass transformed ordinary sunlight into an artistic and spiritual experience, evoking feelings of hope, reflection, and wonder.

In this project, students will connect the historical traditions of stained glass art with contemporary digital illustration techniques. Instead of portraying saints or holy figures, students will honour someone personally meaningful — a family member, loved one, mentor, or close friend who inspires them to become their best self. This project celebrates people who demonstrate kindness, resilience, compassion, leadership, creativity, or positive character in everyday life.
