The “Got Milk” Campaign

Got Milk? (stylized as got milk?) is an American advertising campaign encouraging the consumption of milk, which was created by the advertising agency Goodby Silverstein & Partners for the California Milk Processor Board in 1993, and was later licensed for use by milk processors and dairy farmers. It launched in 1993 with the now-famous “Aaron Burr” television commercial, directed by Michael Bay. The national campaign, run by MilkPEP (Milk Processor Education Program) added the “got milk?” logo to its “Milk Mustache” ads beginning in 1995. (Source: Wikipedia)

Though iconic at the time, the Got Milk campaign has since evolved into other forms of advertising presence. Although we never exclusively discussed advertising in our class this semester, we did have a glimpse of the medium that mostly carries effective ads these days by way of social media.

So the “Got Milk?” campaign came and went, but to this day, dairy producers continue to find new and creative ways to promote their products. This gallery can also be found in our iRAP Gallery.

This gallery represents the work of our iRAP artists as they explore their own themes in an attempt to re-capture the spirit of, “Got Milk?”
